What should I name this photograph? On the surface it's just an old boathouse on the beach, fallen into disrepair. But there's a story here. Every time I photograph this, things have changed. The gnarly trees are encroaching further; more planks are missing; the graffiti is repainted; the base has collapsed. Why was this boathouse, with the boat still inside, left abandoned? And, what about that chair? Why is it there at all, facing the trees rather than the beach? Several possible themes are swirling around in my head: unanswered questions, reclamation, impermanence, perhaps a witness. What do you think?
